Description

This pair of distant magnitude 14 large spiral galaxies is located in the constellation of Lynx at a declination of +56 degrees.  The pair looks close together, but are not quite close enough together physically to be interacting.  No deformation is seen in their disks.

UGC 4133 is the thin edge-on galaxy to the right, located 0.4 billion light years away.  This magnitude 14 galaxy spans 2.3 arc-minutes in our apparent view, which corresponds to a huge diameter of twice the size of our Milky Way at 250,000 light years.

UGC 4134 is the smaller grand design spiral galaxy to the left, located about 20 million light years further away than UGC 4134.  This galaxy spans 2.3 arc-minutes in our apparent view, which corresponds to a diameter of about 150,000 light years.  The hazy star halo from this galaxy seems to bridge connect the two, but that is likely only an illusion.
